Higher Order Thinking Skills (H.O.T.S.)

Welcome to our alternative program for gifted students.

An educational placement for students with special needs, this program is designed to teach content in ways that specifically target gifted characteristics.  

H.O.T.S. is a pull-out program for higher order thinking skills is a full day of intervention for 5th & 6th graders who are  identified as superior cognitive gifted students.

Criteria for Participation:
  • Composite scores of 95% or above on an achievement and/or ability test.  
  • Teacher referral
  • Learning needs match the service option

Procedures:
  • Parents of participating students will be notified by mail during the summer months to participate in the program.
  • An orientation is provided for parents before school begins.  
  • Students are bused to East Elementary once a week.

Expectations of Students:
 Students are expected to:
  • maintain an A-B average in their regular studies.
  • be responsible for assignments at HOTS  and missed assignments in the regular classroom given two days notice.
  • participate in debate and discussions.
  • report to HOTS class on the designated day unless absent due to illness.  Missed classes will result in withdrawl from the program.
