How is my Child Identified?
Students take a standardized tests approved by the state in grades 1, 2 and 4. Parents are notified by mail if their child has exceeded a score of 128 or 95%.
Students can also take an individualized test if referred by a teacher or parent. Results are reported in 30 days. A 95% or above is required by the state of Ohio to be identified.
Types of Identification
The most common forms of identification are:
Specific Academic: The student has a composite score of 95% or above in one or two areas on an achievement test
Service available: interventions
Superior Cognitive: The student has a composite score of 95% or above in all subject areas on an achievement test, or the student has a score of two standard deviations above the mean on a standardized, approved cognitive test.
Service available: Pull-out Program
Visual Performing Arts: Evaluations are given in all grades at the end of the year in music, art, and physical education to identify gifted students. Notification serves as an informational piece for parents.
