The 2012 Power of the Pen District Tournament occurred this past Saturday in Marietta. The students wrote 3 stories each during the day and were judged by teachers from other schools. AMS competed against 8 schools this year.
AMS 7th grade took first place as team with individual award winners of Emily Mather (10th place) Laurel Bayless (8th place) Mia Radhiya (4th place) and Derek Demel (1st place).
AMS 8th grade also took first place as a team with individual awaits winners of Delaney Murray (5th place) Richard Hwang (4th place) and Grace Cahill (1st place).
Richard Hwang also won the "Best of Round" for a story he wrote for Round 1 of writing.
AMS Teacher Dana Dieterle is the coach of the Power of the Pen team this year.
