The Athens High School Coat of Arms serves as the focal point of the flag. From the top, the handshake denotes friendship, fair play, and sportsmanship. The shield represents defending the school; both academically and athletically. The mantling represents a cloak to keep the sun off the armor. Many times this became ragged in battle so the design took this shape. The Olympic rings in the upper right of the shield stand for athletics of amateur standing. The torch of knowledge going through the Olympic rings denotes the perpetuation of ideals
and traditions of Athens High School. The scroll in the lower left of the shield denotes the passing of knowledge and represents the history of the school. The three Greek letters running diagonally across the shield are Pi, Alpha, and Chi, representing the consolidation of Athens, The Plains, and Chauncey-Dover High Schools. A committee of student council members of the three existing schools designed the seal during the 1966-1967 school year. The committee was known as the PAC.
The Athens High School Coat of Arms rests in the center of a gold field, symbolizing both success and optimism—values every Athens High School graduate learns during their time as a student. Green Borders protect the gold field. Green symbolizes prosperity, hope, and natural growth. Surrounding the coat of arms are six stars representing each of the schools Athens High School Students pass through on their journey to Athens High School. The six schools are Chauncey Elementary, East Elementary, Morrison-Gordon Elementary, The Plains Elementary, West Elementary, and Athens Middle School.
Upon invitation of the Athens High School Student Council and Senior Class, students submitted school flag designs over the 2010-2011 school year. Andrew Dewald, Valedictorian of the Athens High School Class of 2011, submitted the winning design. The Class of 2011 provided necessary funds to have the flag printed. Performance Signs of Columbus Road printed the flag and helped with the graphic design. The flag now flies over both the entrance to Athens High School and at Scott Riggs and Family Stadium over Rutter Field.
